Q: What's the story behind your “Unique in Common” collection?
A: Well, with this particular collection, I designed it with 9 to 6’s motto in mind. Which essentially is all about clothing that is perfectly appropriate for work, and also for casual occasions. For each designer piece, I like to keep things simple, elegant, yet refreshing for summer!
Q: Where do you draw your inspiration from? What would you say inspires your designs?
A: The city really inspires me. People go to work every day, some with no smiles on their faces. And so my collection is really for these people. I would like to design something that brings colour to their work life, to their work environment. And it has to be appropriate for women to wear to work. Colourful and interesting I would say, but not weird. In celebration of the flowers blooming in the summer time, I've brought in florals to my designs.
Q: What would you say your personal style is like? Does it affect your designer pieces?
A: Comfort is key! This drives me to source for good quality fabrics wherever I go. I need to ensure that everyone who wears my designer pieces feel good, while of course looking fab!
Q: How do you cope with work and studies in Hong Kong? I really admire how you juggle both at the same time.
A: My work is something that I enjoy. So I'm glad that it doesn't discourage me. I always have a schedule set out for work and study. It's good to be organised. Also, for me, work and study complement each other. And I draw inspiration from both my work and studies.
Q: What would you say is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far as a young designer?
A: That's a tough one. I would say that no one really knows me, and people often underestimate me. This means I have to spend more time in proving my capabilities. Having said that, I'm certain of myself, so it's a challenge, but not a problem for me.
Q: What is one thing you can’t live without?
A: Fashion for sure. I love everything about fashion. As a young designer, I do note that the difficulties and hurdles all come as part of working and studying in the fashion industry.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A: I see myself in the fashion industry, definitely. I will go into it and do whatever it takes to be where I want to be. As someone who loves everything about fashion, I'm quite willing to do anything fashion-related. My hope is to continue designing for people, and of course, having happy, satisfied clients who love what I have designed!
