Question by Anthony R: What is “codec” in regards with camcorders and computers?
I have recently purchased the sony handy cam DRS-45 model and I am keen on making and editing videos via windows movie maker. However when I try to import clips from the camera into the movie maker it says that the codec required to play the file is not installed on my computer. Any help with this guys?

A Codec is a file bundle that allows your computer to play/display certain video types. Have you ever downloaded a clip and gotten sound with no video or vice-versa?
The good news is that Codec updates are free. Simply google ‘Codec package for ________ – (Your operating system, ex. – Windows Vista Home Premium), and download the most recent package.
