Emo music is nothing like goth musc. Emo music always has that guy with the annoying whiny voice. And its “EMOtional”, but its not anything like darker types of music.

Emo isn’t punk, at all. Emo would be like Dashboard Confessional. Punk would be like Rancid, The Distillers, Against Me! Pop Punk would be like Green Day or Good Charlotte.

emotional= emo.
so therefore emo music is more emotional music..or more “in tune with the soul”
some examples of “emo” music are:
bright eyes
death cab for cutie
the postal service
cursive
and things like that. it’s not a bad selection of music though. i thoroughly enjoy bright eyes and death cab =)
emo is definitely not punk. it’s not screamo. and it’s not gothic music. it doesn’t worship the devil.
all it is, is soothing music…that has a lot of depth or meaning behind it.

Emo is not like punk OR goth.
Well… I guess its sort of a ripoff of gothic music, but if it is, it’s a BAD ripoff, whereas gothic music can actually be pretty good. I generally consider it a seperate genre with STYLE influences from those genres.
It’s DEFINITELY not like punk, cause it’s all depressed and shit, where good punk has a real message (the best, in my opinion, is political) as opposed to just whining and not doing anything and when it is emotional, the emotion isn’t depression, it’s about being pissed off.
If you like emo, don’t take any of that personally or anything. It’s just my opinion.

EMO evolved out of hardcore punk with bands like Rites of Spring and Fugazi in the mid ’80s. Unlike, punk (traditional or hardcore) these bands’ lyrics were much more personal and introspective and overall, the music was more experimental.
It’s hard to say whether EMO is more like punk or goth, since goth and EMO music both evolved out of punk.
