What are some small but amazingly tough offroad vehicles?

Question by kyleryantoth: What are some small but amazingly tough offroad vehicles?
I am talking along the lines of the 2door Jeep Wranger, Suzuki Samurai, Geo Tracker, and *my favorite and true offroad* LAND ROVER DEFENDER. I would love to own a Defender but to buy one in the United States would be absurdly expensive. So what are some other less common Offroad vehicles available in the United States?

A Jeep TJ, CJ, YJ (AKA Wranglers) are about the best 4×4 vehicles in the world. They are much like the Defender in that they have been in all of the harshest environments on earth. Suzuki Samurai’s can be built into competant offroad vehicles, but it takes a VW diesel engine and a lot of work converting it to a solid front axle and other work. the Jeeps are probably the best of the best. For something a bit more comparable to the Defender, you could look at 2 door 84-01 Jeep Cherokees, as they are almost as capable as the Wranglers, But have a solid roof and are a bit more spaceous inside, but not tremendously large outside.
