okay so im emo and i was talking to this girl whos saying that she listens to emo music like tokio hotel and all time low…i mean i dont think preppies should listen to our music…their the people who make fun of us and make our lifes miserable!and now their trying to listen to our music and steal our style?thats just not right!tell me what u think…

People should listen to whatever music they want. It doesn’t matter what group you are classified as, prep, goth, emo… music is music. And whatever music people can connect to, they can listen. Music may have labels, as emo or punk… but it doesn’t say “Preps can’t listen”. That’s like telling an asian they can’t listen to country music. Who cares?

music is an expression of how you feel. so if you feel like listening to angry music (punk), sad music (emo), or bad music (goth{sorry can’t stand the stuff}) it is their choice. but i do agree, i get pissed off when the people make fun, then steal. Ex. i wear skinny jeans. i got teased for like ever about them, then all a sudden everyone is wearing them.

wtf? i’m NOT emo, not goth, and i could be considered a little bit preppy. and my all time FAVORITE band is Evanescence, which is “emo”, and Papa roach is right up there, and they’re not exactly Britney Spears.

Umm.. i think a person should be able to listen to whatever music they want and i also think placing a label on someone and categorizing them like that is pathetic and sterotypical. just because a person wears for example, abercrombie, doesn’t make them more likely to make fun of you. just means their immature. Who says preppies have to listen to a certain type of music. Music is based on style, and liking, NOT on your status of if you are poor, rich, preppie, or hobo.
You may be as rich me, and you like Rap, but I like country. so just because we make the same amount of money does not mean we listen to the same music.

are you kidding me?? who is anyone to tell ANYONE what they can and cannot listen to? Just cuz someone is a jerk and doesn’t like how you dress or makes fun of you doesn’t mean that they can’t listen to “your” music. no music has an owner beyond the person(s) who created it. I get that you’re upset because it’s most definitely hypocritical of that particular group to say that you’re uncool or whatever for how you are and then go and emulate you by listening to the music you enjoy. yes, that’s not right – and those people are shallow, self-centered and won’t amount to much…so take comfort in that. however, for people like me, who listen to everything from Mozart to metallica, hearing someone call a particular genre of music “theirs” is just plain insulting. I don’t act like every single group of music in my itunes – that’d be exhausting. so yes, you’re right that they’re jerks and should quit making fun of you for your style while they listen to the music that inspired it. but that music isn’t yours or anyone else’s…so if a prep who minds her own business wants to crank out a little emo when she’s feeling down – well then that’s her business and there’s not a thing anyone else can or SHOULD do about it.

People should be able to listen to any kind of music they like. Stop using labels to define yourself and others who are not like you. That’s just stupid. Live your life the way you wanna live it and just forget what they say about you. It’s hard but at least try to work things out.
There are plenty of people who don’t realize what kind of music that is. Music is music. Most Preppies think they know better, that’s why they make your life hell. Be the better person and just continue living your life and realize that they are dissing the people who have INSPIRED THEM in the first place. That’s not even a good thing on their part but they’d never have the guts to admit that they like your style to begin with.
Stereotypes and labels should have gone extinct within 24 hours of the first ones to exist.
Think outside the box, you’ll be happier in the long run. Don’t be so closed-minded. If you’re being real, that’s better than those who wear things because it’s in or because their friends wear those things. The ones who hate you are ignorant, and just because you feel they’re stealing your style doesn’t mean you should be worried or anything. Just forget these people and understand this is a TREND they feel the need to follow.

I don’t think you’ve seen as much of the world as you think you have.
A. You are extremely immature for having this opinion. EVERYONE is entitled to enjoying music, it’s a universal form of entertainment. The type of music doesn’t matter.
B. Tokio Hotel, CWWAF, All Time Low, Escape The Fate, etc. are very POPular bands, hence, they will have a wide variety of fans who enjoy their songs.
C. Preppies, Emos, Goths, Punks, Stoners, Hippies, Thugs, Jocks, Cowboys, Geeks, and Basket Cases are all people, and they are all alike. It is perfectly possible for somebody who is punk or emo to be friends with somebody that is a prep or cowboy. You know why? They are all STYLES, which isn’t what differenciates people, personas do. Evidently you haven’t noticed that you yourself are part of the largest stereotype out there today. Total, there are more “emo” kids than there are preps do mostly to “posers” (which I am sure you are because anyone who is as defensive about this crap is a “poser”), and they often do a lot of damage to other stupid little cliques like themselves.
D. When you finally grow up and no longer decide to be an “emo” kid, which I’d say is between 1-3 years, you’ll look back at this and be embarrassed for asking such a ridiculous question. Mainly because you will realize that you are the one alienating yourself, and trying to deny others the “right” to your “style”.
E. Get out of the middle of nowhere town you live in, and look at reality one day.
